Ebus Makes a Splash at the Port in San Pedro

Electric Buses from Ebus, Inc. are put into shuttle service at Ports O' Call

San Pedro California, 16 December 1999: During a dedication ceremony this morning three all-electric Trolley Replicas manufactured by Ebus, Inc. were put into service at the scenic Ports O' Call village in San Pedro. These vehicles will be used to transport passengers between this popular south bay attraction, downtown San Pedro and the cruise ship terminal at the harbor, and are replacing the three existing electric Trolleys that have been in service since 1992.

City of Los Angeles Councilman, Mr. Rudy Svorinich, Jr., Assistant Council President Pro Tempore and Chairman of the City Council Transportation Committee, offered: "Today we commemorate a milestone - the (electric) trolleys being retired have each traversed 100,000 miles during the seven years since the program was inaugurated. As we celebrate this occasion we must also bid farewell to the green trolleys. The new vehicles being introduced today offer superior technology and represent a bright new future for electric-powered transportation." The Ebus 22-Foot Trolley Replica provides the perfect blend of old time style and modern technology, and is the ideal vehicle for this type of application. The interior boasts hand finished hardwood seats, wall panels and ceiling panels. Brass trim is used throughout the interior and exterior, including a brass bell to announce the vehicle's arrival at the next stop. The Trolley's low-floor design, large side windows, wide rear deck, and distinctive cupola all work together to create a very open and comfortable riding experience. The vehicle seats 22 passengers and feature all ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) required components as standard equipment. This all-electric Trolley achieves a top speed of 43 mph and provides a range of 50-60 miles on a single charge. An optional rapid charging system provides additional range.

"The City of San Pedro has established a wonderful tradition of providing electric transportation with their Trolleys over the last seven years," said William G. Webster, Jr., President of Ebus, Inc. " We are proud to be the supplier of the next generation vehicle that will certainly allow this tradition to continue."

Ebus is a recently formed electric-bus manufacturer, and current production models include 22-foot Transit Buses and Trolley Replicas with either all-electric or hybrid-electric propulsion systems. Both vehicles are low-floor platforms, have space for 22 seated passengers, are completely ADA compliant, and are fitted with anti-lock brakes, all as standard equipment. A battery management and cooling system designed to facilitate fast/opportunity charging is available as an option, as well as a wide range of accessories and configurations. Ebus is currently finalizing the design for a new 30-foot electric and hybrid-electric bus, which will be available in mid 2000.
